Step by Step Guide for all you noobs!
I'll start from scratch. I had a Jellybean Locked Bootloader, which I then unlocked by going on Sony's official page. I then installed the app TowelRoot and rooted my phone. After that, I got Clockwork Mod Recovery on my phone. Tutorial for that is below:
After getting the CWM Recovery, you have to "flash" ROMs onto your phone to change it. Doing this MAY or may not make you loose your root access. So first I downloaded these links given by Furrydaus:
I then put the installed both the CM12 and gapps zip on my SDCard as well as a Root Checking app on my SDCard. After that I booted into recovery mode and ONLY installed CM12. I then rebooted my phone (which took a while). After that, I rebooted it into recovery mode and ONLY installed the gapps zip. Then I went into File Manager and installed my Root Checking app, as it turned out I had lost root access. So, I flashed(installed in recovery) this zip found in this link:
Then I went on the PlayStore and got an unzipping app, to help myself unzip the folder installed onto my phone. Then, I went to "common" to "superuser.apk" and installed it.
After doing all that, my SIM was still not recognised. So I followed this procedure by and-roid007:
1: Reboot your device and open up terminal emulator
2: type su, press enter and give it root acces
3: type setenforce 0 and press enter
4: WAIT untill the device asks you to enter your sim pin (this means that it worked)
5: turn on wi-fi (it might take a little long to turn on wi-fi though)
6: well not yet there is one step you can do to make it easier to change the selinux state, Download and install this
7: again make sure your device is rooted
8: open the app and now you can switch between permissive (this mode is the one that fixed the issues) and enforcing (default mode: wi-fi, ... don't work on this mode)
FAQ:
What is not affected (what doesn't work): The camera (can't connect to camera or hot reboot when launching camera app), more?
What is affected (what is fixed): WI-FI, Data (LTE too) Outgoing calls, more?
Do i have to do this everytime i boot my device: Yes for now you do
On what build does it run: mrsteve555's build, there were 2 reports of it not working on bagy's build"
There you have it! Fixed! But VPN still doesn't work.
